Renton
Was founded in 1782 by the Smollett's of Bonhill
and named in honor of one of the daughter in law
who was a Miss Renton of Lammerton, and
subsequently developed as a direct result of the
bleaching, dyeing and printing industry .

The village was the birthplace of the
distinguished novelist Tobias Smollett (1721 -
1771) a monument to his memory can be found in the
grounds of Renton Primary School on the Main
Street.

the butchers is the now The Central Bar one of only
two pubs left today in Renton in my younger days
there were six.
